TFA Lecturers

TFA is managed and run by a core team with thirty years of experience in fundraising and marketing. Additional lecturers are used for specific courses for which they are experts.

 

Core Lecturers:

*Charles Maisel, Founder and Trustee
With more than 15 years of fundraising experience, Charles Maisel is a visionary changemaker who views himself less as an entrepreneur and more as a social artist who creates pieces of work that are unique and evocative. Charles’ approach to social entrepreneurship is revolutionary – addressing everyday problems with ingenious solutions. Amongst his most famous projects are Fundi (formerly Men on the Side of the Road), Shanduka Black Umbrellas, and Indledlana Rock Roads project. His Innovation Shack is a social enterprise, a hub of social innovation, which constantly researches, develops, finances and launches new social entities to tackle pertinent issues.


*Jocelyn Freed, Director
While Jocelyn’s formal training is in education and art therapy, she has more than 15 years of experience as a fundraiser. Jocelyn spent several years building her skills through working at Catholic Welfare and Development and Men on the Side of the Road. She frequently consults to non-profits in the Cape Town area.


*Jackie Burman, Director and Trustee
Jackie has spent the past eight years working in the non-profit sector. She earned an MBA with a focus on mission-driven management from Brandeis University (MA, USA) and has since worked as a fundraiser in a number of different organisations, both in the US and South Africa. Jackie currenly assists various organisations in the Cape Town area with fundraising strategy, research, and writing.
